Car insurance is another piece of the puzzle that can help if a problem occurs; plus, it's the law. The Illinois law requires that every driver have both liability and uninsured motorist insurance coverage.

Effective and Affordable Automobile Coverage

Illinois Car Insurance

Having car insurance means having financial security. Going without puts you, others, your driver's license, and your wallet at risk.

If you get in a wreck, your insurance policy might help you pay for damage to your car. It can even help you pay for other drivers’ losses if you caused the wreck. Most car insurance policies have multiple uses, and you can usually mix and match your coverage to meet your needs. Going without can cause financial hardship by way of fines and damages, license suspensions, vehicle impounding, and SR22 requirements for up to five years.

We represent top insurance companies and the insurance policies we provide can contain:

Liability: Gets you legal and covers the damage you cause others, up to your chosen limits if you are at fault in a wreck. All our policies start with Illinois’s mandatory liability insurance (but can certainly be increased to higher limits as needed/desired).  Illinois requires minimum limits of:

  • $25,000 bodily injury per person
  • $50,000 bodily injury total per accident
  • $20,000 property damage

Please note in Illinois, liability insurance does not cover your own costs for personal injuries or property damage.

Uninsured Motorist: In Illinois, you must also carry uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage to help cover injuries to you and/or your passengers in a car accident with an uninsured driver.  Requires proof that the other driver was not insured at the time of the accident.

Car accidents can be extremely costly, and you might find you need extra protection since the minimum car insurance limits in Illinois might not cover all the damages. This type of insurance will not cover property damage. The following are minimum limits for uninsured motorist coverage for bodily injury every Illinois driver is required to have by Illinois law:

  • $25,000 per person
  • $50,000 total per accident

Under-Insured Motorist: In Illinois, you must also carry underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage if you have higher than the State required limits to help cover injuries to you and/or your passengers in a car accident with a driver who has only state-required auto insurance limits.

This type of insurance also will not cover property damage. The following are minimum limits for underinsured motorist coverage for bodily injury:

  • $25,000 per person
  • $50,000 total per accident

Optional Car Insurance Coverage

According to DMV.org, most Illinois auto insurance carriers offer the following types of optional coverage:

  • Collision – Will help cover damages to your car after a traffic accident.
  • Comprehensive – Will help pay for repairs of non-collision-related damages to your car, such as those from vandalism or hitting a deer.
  • Medical Payments – Will help cover costs from accident-related injuries, not covered by other insurance.
  • Uninsured Motorist Property Damage – Will help cover damage to your car after an accident with an uninsured driver, minus deductible.
  • Rental Reimbursement – Will help cover the cost of a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired after a car accident.
  • Towing Reimbursement – Will help cover the cost of towing expenses due to accidents.

Please note that Illinois law does not require you to have collision and/or comprehensive coverage, but you may be required to purchase these coverages depending on which lender you used to finance your vehicle.
