A number of U.S. states now use real-time or near-real-time electronic verification systems to track car insurance. Why? To catch and reduce uninsured driving. Protect yourself. Always make sure you’re dealing with a licensed insurance agent, a car insurance professional. Even then, sometimes scammers are out there. It is your responsibility to carry legit car insurance (especially when you’re paying your hard-earned dollars for it). To protect yourself, learn a lesson from the Texas Department of Insurance. Get the car insurance company receipt, not a handwritten or typed out receipt from an agent. You always want a receipt from your insurance company.

Other Considerations in Presenting a Falsified Car Insurance Card

No matter how you look at it, fake cards are serious. Be in the know: in most states, prosecutors can charge you with a class D felony if you create, alter, or knowingly produce a fake insurance card. Showing one to a police officer can be a misdemeanor. However, in many cases, they elevate it to a felony if used to commit fraud. Can you think of any reason the intent wouldn’t be fraudulent in a fake car insurance card? No. It is a forged document. Why take these chances?
