Optional protection helps toward collision-based repairs or replacement of your watercraft as the result of hitting a rock or other submerged object, running into a dock or other

boat, minus deductible

A common coverage deductible is $500

  • Comprehensive:

Optional protection helps toward compensating you if your boat is vandalized, stolen, or damaged in an incident other than a collision, minus deductible

A common coverage deductible is $500

  • Medical payments:

Optional protection that can help cover medical bills, like X-rays and hospital bills, if you or your passengers are injured in an accident on your boat

A common coverage amount is $1,000 for medical payments but can be higher

Things to Consider when Buying Boat Insurance

Review the following list with your agent to determine the best watercraft insurance policy for you.

  • How much can you afford to pay if your boat or personal watercraft is in an accident, damaged or stolen?  This will impact the deductibles you choose if you get physical damage coverage
  • Is my boat or watercraft covered for use year-round?  Most policies default to yes but there are some that have built in clauses that they don’t offer coverage in specific months. Often called lay up discounts.
  • What discounts and programs are available?  All the questions we ask you are to get you the most discounts possible.
  • How much medical insurance and liability coverage is enough?  No one can decide for you but a good way to help decide is look at your Homeowner and Auto Insurance limits and consider your assets.
  • Do I want to have coverage if I need to have my boat towed in an emergency?
  • Is my carrier experienced in boat insurance?  If with Solo Insurance®, yes!

Things to Know when Buying Boat Insurance

  • Home and auto insurance policies may only provide extremely limited coverage for personal watercraft, and often only for non-motorized, very small boats like canoes. A personal watercraft policy protects you and your water vehicle, if you choose physical damage, in the event of an accident.
  • Without physical damage coverage like comprehensive and collision, losses to your boat are not covered.
