Effective Coverage at the Limits You Want

By having car insurance, you get a sense of some financial security. Going without insurance puts you, others, your driver’s license, and your wallet at risk.

Let’s say you cause an incident; your policy helps pay for damage you caused to other people and their cars up to the limits you choose. If you get more than the basic Liability coverage it could even help you pay for your car with comprehensive and collision coverage. Most policies have multiple uses, and you can usually mix and match your coverage to meet your needs. Going without can cause financial hardship by way of fees, fines and damages, license suspensions, vehicle registration suspensions and SR22 requirements.

We represent multiple top-name insurance carriers that offer many options of coverage.

Oregon Required Coverage to meet the mandatory car insurance law

  • Liability: Covers the damage you cause other people and things, up to your chosen limits, if you are at fault in an accident. Our policies start with Oregon’s mandatory coverages and can, of course, be increased to higher limits as needed or desired. Oregon requires a minimum of:
    • $25,000 bodily injury liability coverage per person
    • $50,000 bodily injury liability coverage per accident
    • $25,000 property damage liability coverage per accident
  • Uninsured Motorist [UM]: UM is bodily injury and protects you if you’re involved in a collision with a driver who doesn’t have current auto insurance. You could use this coverage from your own policy once the other person’s fault and lack of insurance is proven. Oregon requires UM at a minimum of:
    • $25,000 bodily injury liability coverage per person
    • $50,000 bodily injury liability coverage per accident

Personal Injury Protection [PIP]: Your car insurance policy also includes PIP coverage which helps pay for medical expenses incurred due to an accident. Higher than the mandatory limit is available. Oregon mandatory PIP is:

  • $15,000 Personal Injury Protection coverage per person

Oregon Optional Coverages also available

  • Under-Insured Motorist [UIM]: Protects you if you’re involved in a collision with a driver who whose insurance is too low to adequately cover your costs. It is available with higher than state required coverage. Like UM, it is also from your own policy once the other person’s fault and lack of insurance coverage is proven.
  • Collision: Helps pay for damage to your own car after an accident, minus deductible.
  • Comprehensive: Helps pay for car damage caused by hazards like deer, fire, weather, theft, minus deductible.
  • Towing:  Optional additional coverage when you choose Comprehensive & Collision. Towing reimbursement helps pay for moving your own car after a wreck. Always consult your claims representative for details on using this coverage.
  • Rental: Optional additional coverage when you choose Comprehensive & Collision. Rental reimbursement helps toward the cost of a replacement vehicle while your car is being repaired. Always consult your claims representative for details on using this coverage.

Should You Keep Your Oregon Car Insurance?  Absolutely!

Driving without insurance is prohibited in Oregon per statute §806.010. It requires a policy meeting state minimum requirements and carrying the proof of it whenever on the road. Failure to do so will result in costly consequences as well as cancelled driving privileges. If you’re caught without coverage, it’s costly, aggravating and time consuming. Everyone knows they need to provide proof of car insurance at a collision and when you’re pulled over for rolling through a stop sign or a different violation. If you don't have it, you can be convicted with a Class B violation.

If caught without car insurance you face Driver’s License and Registration suspensions, possible vehicle impoundment and the fees to get it released, fines up to $1000, monthly insurance verification up to three years by Oregon’s Department of Transportation (ODOT) and reinstatement fees.
