ROAD TRIP!! (Safety tips for your journey) –by Solo Insurance®

Summertime is fun time!  You may be heading out in your car for a day trip to an amusement park or a long road trip across the country.  Here are a few recommendations to keep your car and your dear ones safer on the journey, be it short or long.

Just as we need refreshments to keep us refreshed, so does your vehicle.  When was the last time you gave it some TLC?  Better to do so now, before you hit the road, then when you must later because it breaks down.  Cars do well with regular checkups too.  Here are some things to consider:

When you think refreshments you think of fluids.  FLUIDS are important to keeping your car cooled and happy.  You know it’s hot outside, imagine working all day without a cool drink.  Your car runs hotter than you do so make sure your fluid levels are good and that the liquid is clear.  Cloudy liquids can indicate things like gasket leaks.

You should also check your TIRES for uneven wear, tread depth and the pressures.  The hotter than blazes roads are tough on tires (imagine running down the hot roads barefoot).  Heat increases pressure so if there is a thin tread depth you’re at more risk for blowouts.  Blowouts can cause accidents or leave you stranded on the side of the road.

We charge the batteries on our phones daily, when was the last time you checked your car’s BATTERY?  If it’s been over 3 years, get it tested to see how it’s doing.  Like us, batteries can also get “parched” in the summer. High temperatures can potentially evaporate your battery's vital liquids and weaken its charge.

Did you know your WINDSHIELD WIPERS should clear the glass on a single swipe?  If they don’t, they’re another good thing to check before hitting the road.  If caught in a downpour you don’t want to be aggravated about the wiper blades when you’re supposed to be having fun.  A good average for wiper blades is to expect a year of service.

You’ll want to make sure you have your automobile insurance cards (and registration, if required by your State) readily available in a spot you can easily access.  Make sure your payments are current and all is well.  It’s also good to have a list of emergency contacts, just so you’re always prepared.  If you don't have car insurance and need it, we can help.  If you just want to check your rates because it's been a while, we do that too.  See information below.

Have fun and safe summer!
